International Advanced Placement Program

Feel like a challenge?

Advanced Placement Courses

At Lisgar we have a very strong, successful AP program that we continue to build upon each year.  The International Advanced Placement (AP) Program allows you to earn equivalent credits for first-year courses at many universities in Canada, the United States, and several other countries.  Unlike the International Baccalaureate Program, you are free to pick only the AP courses that interest you.  Want to know more about what taking an AP course is like?  Visit the College Board to find out.  For a complete list of Lisgar's AP courses, check out our Secondary Course Guide.

AP Capstone

In addition to the eight AP courses offered, Lisgar Collegiate Institute is also offering the AP Capstone Program comprised of AP Seminar and AP Research courses.  Lisgar Collegiate is the only school in Ottawa and one of 27 schools in Canada to offer this unique program.  AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that provides you with an opportunity to engage in rigorous scholarly practice of the core academic skills necessary for successful university completion.  AP Capstone students are also eligible to earn the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma.

Each AP course costs $175.  AP Seminar and AP Research each cost $230.  We request a $50 non-refundable deposit in November.  Refunds of $125 will be issued on any cancelled exam before March 1, 2020.  The cost of an AP course covers: the exam; shipping & handling; marking of the exam; exam proctoring; mandatory training for AP teachers; AP textbooks and other AP resources; Canadian to US dollar exchange rate.

Exam Registration

If you choose to take an AP course, you will be expected to write the final corresponding AP exam in May.
