With the impact that the global pandemic has had on student’s wellness and mental health, we have found it necessary to address this issue. In an effort to educate students and other community members and to provide the tools to deal with one’s mental health, John McCrae’s Student Council and Lisgar’s Student Council hosted a virtual town hall on June 4, 2021 featuring guest speakers from the Youth Services Bureau who discussed and shared their insights on wellness and mental health.

Environmental Sustainability & Justice

Current issues relating to climate change, pollution, green energy, and environmental racism have sparked many questions and concerns from youth at Lisgar and throughout the community. In an effort to educate students and other community members on these matters and to discuss ways students can get involved, Lisgar hosted a virtual town hall to discuss environmental sustainability and justice.

Defunding the Police

The ongoing demonstrations on Black Lives Matter, systemic racism, and police violence have shed light on the idea of defunding the police. In an effort to educate Lisgar students and to raise awareness about this frequently discussed topic, we invited activists and prominent community leaders such as Hailey Dash, Grace Ayoo, Maya Basudde, and Phil Gursk to start a conversation.

Anti-Black Racism

In response to ongoing events surrounding systemic racism, police violence, George Floyd, Black Lives Matter, and ongoing demonstrations, Lisgar hosted a virtual town hall Friday, June 12, 2020 to discuss systemic racism, social change, allyship, as well as provide advice on what you can do to help.
