Awards & Scholarships Requiring School Nomination

Each year, Lisgar is provided the opportunity to nominate a small number of graduating students to be considered for select major community/university awards and scholarships.  Students who receive a high school nomination are then assessed by the community organization that determines its successful applicant(s).  All students are encouraged to apply for the chance of nomination.  Information about these will be released in the fall, winter and spring rounds of awards and scholarships.

Queen's University Chancellor's Scholarship
Students who demonstrate superior academic ability, creative and original thinking, involvement in school or community activities, and proven leadership can apply for this Major Admission Award.

University of Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship
The University of Toronto National Book Award Program recognizes and rewards the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend.  These are students who demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative though, and exceptional achievement in a broad context.  They excel in academic pursuits, demonstrate enthusiasm for intellectual exploration and have a strong involvement in their lives on their schools and communities.  It is not necessary that the student intend to apply to the University of Toronto.

University of Toronto National Book Award
The University of Toronto National Book Award Program recognizes and rewards the very best Canadian secondary school students, regardless of which university those students choose to attend.  These are students who demonstrate superior academic performance, original and creative though, and exceptional achievement in a broad context.  They excel in academic pursuits, demonstrate enthusiasm for intellectual exploration and have a strong involvement in their lives on their schools and communities.  It is not necessary that the student intend to apply to the University of Toronto.

Huron College Hellmuth Scholarships
Hellmuth Scholarships are meant to recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence, a passion for student life through community leadership, volunteer service, passion for arts and athletics.

Schulich Leader Scholarships
Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest and most prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to high school graduates enrolling in Science, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) programs at their 20 Canadian partner universities.  Fifty students across Canada receive this celebrated award each year.

Western University National Scholarship Program
The Western University National Scholarships are designed to recognize all-around excellence of the best and brightest students.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic performance to candidates who demonstrate ability for creative and innovating thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning.  National Scholarships also recognize exceptional leadership in extracurricular activities such as the arts and athletics.  A special emphasis is placed on a candidate's commitment to community services through ongoing contributions to school and community life.

John Franklin / Doug Arrang Scholarship
Each year, one outstanding Lisgar C.I. graduate will be selected to receive a one-time $10,000 scholarships in honour of John Franklin, a successful Lisgar C.I. graduate and Doug Arrang, a former student, and retired  Lisgar C.I. history teacher and guidance teacher.  John Franklin and Doug Arrand place a great deal of value on education and on character.  This award is specifically intended to promote the continuing post-secondary goals of its recipient.  The scholarship will be awarded to one student who best exemplifies the spirit of Lisgar C.I. in several key areas, specifically, academic achievements, leadership skills and community/school involvement.  Only graduating Lisgar C.I. students who will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall (proof of acceptance must be provided at a later date) to pursue a course of study leading to a diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university within Canada may apply.

Lieutenant Governor's Community Volunteer Award for Students
This non-monetary award recognizes high school students who go above and beyond the required number of volunteer hours needed to graduate.  One award (consisting of a pin, letter and a certificate) is given to a graduating student at each of Ontario's high schools at Commencement.

Lincoln M. Alexander Award
Every year since 1993, the Government of Ontario has presented this award to honour up to three young Ontarians who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in contributing to the elimination of racial discrimination in Ontario.
